Whip It Up! Week Five Wrap-Up!
Summer is a very busy time of year, but that hasn't stopped the Whip it Up Participants from contributing 213 recipes! Whew. We'll see you next week at RA's blog for week six. The theme is appetizers. Enjoy!
Appetizers
- Nikki tried out a new cookbook and found great success in her Mozzarella with Tomatoes and Basil.
- Sherry tweaked a recipe to recreate a restaurant favorite in her Cream of Pumpkin Soup.
Beef
- Heidi put a new twist on Whip It Up as the first participant to cook her meal over a campfire! Check out her Tin Foil Dinner.
- Jess, who is otherwise known as my personal Weight Watchers idol, lightened up one of her favorite dishes with her Moo Shu Beef.
- Jamie tried Shortcut Italian Beef, a recipe from another WIU participant, and is definitely adding it to her repertoire!
- Darcey, as usual, added her own twist to a recipe to create her Asian Steak Salad with wonderful results.
Beverages
- Meredith tried a new recipe in search for the perfect Whiskey Sour. Meredith is a good friend and mentioned to me that I might like to try this recipe. Meredith clearly does not remember The Great Whiskey Incident of '05.
Bread and Breakfast
- Meghan was able to file her Spicy Meat and Cheese Stromboli under weeknight favorites in her recipe binder.
- Sherry was underwhelmed with the results of her Baked French Toast.
- Jamie tried her hand at making Calzones with Italian Tomato Sauce.
Desserts
- Janet and her sister concocted a Slow Berry Cobbler in a slow cooker with fantastic results.
- Meredith made Chocolate Sorbet, and since this is my blog I can point out that the espresso maker she has was totally a wedding gift from me. So, in a way, I HELPED! (Though, I suppose that would be a Michael Scott way of helping...)
- Bren's results were kind of 'meh' with her Peanut Butter Blondie Squares but the concept has lots of potential and she's open to suggestions.
- Nancy Pearl Wannabe liked her Key Lime Meltaways but will make some adjustments next time.
- Julie's Low Blueberry Grunt was, in her words, AMAZING.
Pasta
- Nikki has completely piqued my interest with her Conchiglioni with Ricotta Cheese, Broad Beans and Mint. Hey Nikki, wanna come over and make this for me? I have the same name!
- Erin found a simple and yummy recipe in her Linguine with Broccoli and Lemon. I think I might have to try this one out.
- Merrick tried two quick and easy pasta dishes: Pasta with Peppers and Mozzarella AND Bean and Sausage Rigatoni.
Pork
- Jess whipped up some German-Style Bratwurst, totally approved by her German fiance.
- Heather didn't take pictures of her Homemade BBQ Sauce and BBQ Pork Loin because she served wine as a side dish and forgot. That is also my favorite side note to any recipe every.
Poultry
- Meredith is going to make Cornish Hens with Cornbread Stuffing next time I visit.
- Erin made Honey Garlic Stir Fry and I think I'm going to copy her for next week.
- An entirely different Erin made Chicken Cutlets with Tomato Saute and found the recipe to be delicious and delightfully simple.
- Stephanie is taunting me with her Baked Chicken Chile Rellenos so that now I want Mexican food for lunch.
Side Dishes
- Emily made a family favorite, her Grandpa's Potato Salad, for the first time.
- Tammy found her Herb-Roasted potatoes to be easy to make and an incredibly versatile side dish.
- Emily tried one of my favorites, Fried Green Tomatoes.
Vegetarian
- Proactive Bridesmaid wasn't 100% pleased with the results of her Eggplant-Zucchini Gratin.
- Anna's kids helped her make Falafel with Tzatziki.
- Lacey has found a purpose in Rachael Ray with the ease of her Blue Cheese Tomato Tart.
- Zandria made a recipe that I have to try: her Spinach and Pear Salad with Dijon Mustard Vinaigrette.
- Noelle had a little snafu in the making of her Raw Italian-Style Zucchini Pasta Pesto.
- Emily made Ratatouille with Sun-Dried Tomatoes -- in the microwave!
- Meredith found delicious success with her Black Bean Burgers.
Can I please get credit for going to a restaurant and ordering something I've never ordered in a restaurant before?
No? FINE.

My recipe was "sucking it up by not making a recipe!" Would I try it again...um, unfortunately probably. I made something tonight and hope to post it for next week!! I miss participating!

I thought I made the deadline, but maybe I didn't! I guess it doesn't matter, because the recipe I used for broiled tomatoes sucked.
